2007 Domenico Clerico Barolo “stratospheric”

“The 2007 Clerico Baroli are stratospheric”
- Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, February 2011

Despite it only going on sale last month, we've already sold 3 times as much Monprivato as we have any previous vintage. So to say 2007 Barolo is hot is, it seems, something of an understatement. Clerico's, for example, are “stratospheric”. If you like Monprivato, then Clerico may not be for you. But if you're like me, then you'll love them both. Besides, the Clerico style isn't as modern as it used to be. Domenico has reined back his use of French oak and the wines are all the better for it. If you bought them in the past and found them too much, then it's time to try them again. Those who bought the “emotional, moving” 2006s last year shouldn't miss these 2007s. Those who didn't should kick themselves, and buy these 2007s. /AR

'Despite having made so many dazzling wines in the past, I can't help thinking Clerico's best Baroli may still lie ahead. Maceration times have been gradually lengthened, the use of new French oak has come down in most of the wines and there are rumblings that larger casks are on the way. Clerico's 2006s are emotional, moving wines that are living up to the praise I bestowed upon them last year. The 2007s are stratospheric.' - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, February 2011
