With four of these wines on tasting tomorrow and Friday

Festive greetings from Uncorked! If you haven't gathered your seasonal sippers yet, allow us to help. We have put together a mixed case of wines and spirits perfect for your Christmas table. Nothing says roast bird like Burgundy (and it can be red or white). With double bubbles, after-lunch stickies, a mellow Cognac and a dram for Santa, you're covered. Ho ho ho!

We'll have four of the wines on tasting tomorrow and Friday. /NT

The mixed case contains 2 bottles of Champagne, and 1 of each of the other lines below:

CHAMPAGNE

NV Gallimard Cuvee de Reserve: Gallimard has been Uncorked's house Champagne for a quarter of a century. Cuvee de Reserve is pure Pinot Noir, and enjoys the warmth and fruit-forward style characteristic of a good Blanc de Noirs. With two bottles of Gallimard in the mixed case, you'll be able to toast Christmas and New Year.

WHITE BURGUNDY

2022 Alexis Pollier Macon-Villages: citrus, hazelnut and butter notes in this excellent Macon. The Maconnais is a great place for well-priced white Burgundy in a slightly riper style.

2018 Pernot-Belicard Bourgogne Cote d`Or: a very classic, poised bottle of white Burgundy with a hint of smoke blowing through the pure citrus fruit. Will cut straight through a roast goose or turkey.

RED BURGUNDY

2020 Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Bourgogne Rouge: Vincent Dureuil-Janthial has made a career out of proving that the terroirs of Rully are every bit as good as those of the Cote d'Or. As much wild strawberry as plum and thyme, this has tangy acidity and melting tannins.

2019 Arlaud Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits: the Hautes Cotes de Nuits are the high, hidden valleys beyond the 'golden slope' that most people think of when you mention Burgundy. Cyprien Arlaud is one of Burgundy's great winemakers, and his Hautes Cotes de Nuits comes from a densely planted vineyard in the Concouer Valley. If you walk all the way to the bottom of the valley you'll come out in no less an address than the Richebourg vineyard.

TWO OTHER RED CLASSICS

2021 Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico: Chianti will work every bit as well with your roast bird as Burgundy, and this is our long-time Chianti favourite. Red berry, rose petal and orange zest.

2020 Raison d`Hetre: the Cotes de Castillon lies on the eastward extension of the plateau underpinning St-Emilion. Packed with plum and thyme notes, this is largely made from Merlot, with a freshening streak of Cabernet Franc. This is made by Jacques Thienpont, the man who makes Le Pin, and it has all the elegance of the Thienpont style on show.

STICKY

2017 Sichel Sauternes: nothing quite says Christmas like an after-lunch glass of Sauternes. Autumn mists in Sauternes encourage noble rot, which causes fruit to shrivel and concentrates sugar in the grapes. The result is a wine with exquisitely sweet notes of citrus and barley sugar, set against a riveting acidity.

FORTIFIED

2004 Fonseca Quinta do Panascal: preserved by alcohol and sugar, few wines age as well as port, which easily acquires the depth that age brings while remaining vigorous and resilient. Panascal is a single vineyard port from the house of Fonseca: the vineyard enjoys a privileged location on steep, exposed slopes above the river Tavora. Dense and velvety, with a black fruit character entwined with notes of chocolate and liquorice.

SPIRITS

AD Rattray Bank Note: slip a dram to Santa and toast Hogmanay a week later with the Bank Note. This blended malt is a mix of 40% Speyside and Highland malt whisky with 60% Lowland grain whisky, and the result is a real Christmas cracker. An iconic brand that was first put together over 150 years ago.

Chateau de Montifaud Cognac VSOP 10-year-old: contemplate the spirit of Christmas past with this mellow sipper. Six generations of the Vallet family have been making cognac in the Archiac, where the Grande and the Petite Champagne meet. Their copper stills are centuries old. A pure and finely-perfumed cognac.
