2018 Latour-Martillac Rouge (Pessac)

60% Cabernet Sauvignon/32% Merlot/8% Petit Verdot. Harvest dates Merlot 17-28 September, Petit Verdot 1 October, Cabernet Sauvignon 2-10 October. 16 months in oak barrels, 40% new. Where the 2016 was full and round and the 2017 fresh, the 2018 is characterised by its depth of flavour, the cassis supported by that touch of tobacco that is classic Graves. Power, balance and vitality, very elegant. (NT 10/04/19)

2018 Latour-Martillac Rouge (Pessac)

Neal Martin

The 2018 Latour-Martillac is generous on the nose, offering plenty of black and red fruit, and touches of mint and menthol gradually emerging with time, though as I stated previously, I would like to see more Pessac DNA come through. The palate is well balanced, although the oak is quite prominent at the moment and you can feel the wood tannins, especially toward the tobacco-tinged finish. Not bad, but it needs a couple of years to fully meld. 91 points
