In a region replete with old, local grape varieties, Falanghina is one of the oldest there is, even if monovarietal bottlings are a phenomenon of the modern era. More strictly in fact, it is a group of varieties, since there are at least two distinct Falanghinas, and very probably more yet to be defined. Terradora are based at Irpinia, among the charming hills inland from the Gulf of Naples, and they expertly vinify a range of the most distinctive Campanian varieties. Their Falanghina has seen no oak, and the dry, tense, citrus and apple character makes this an excellent and versatile food wine. Green pepper goulash, anyone? (NT 17/06/17)
