2014 Grand-Puy-Lacoste (Pauillac)

Grand-Puy Lacoste had hail in July so lost a bit of fruit from that but were able to sort out any incipient rot problems quickly and thoroughly. Cristel did sterling work in vineyard and chai in 14 to ensure a fine harvest. She began the Merlot pick on september 25th and they were all done by October 9th. This is a bit more reticent on the nose but in the mouth shows lovely texture, pronounced perfumed fruit character and fine structure. We visited again later in the week and the wine showed slightly more Pauillac power but still had lots of fruit, nicely done oak and very long. Very nice effort indeed. (CW 30/03/15)

Jane Anson

Dark cassis fruit, with pencil lead, flint and crushed mint leaf, reserved and savoury and full of understated pleasure. This is starting to tip towards tertiary as the drinking window opens, but GPL is a wine that keeps delivering over decades, and this Cabernet dominant fruit isn`t going anywhere. Sleek and finessed, and just a little bit subdued. 75% new oak. Harvest September 25 to October 9, Eric Boissnot consultant. 94 points
