N.V. Lustau Solera Reserva East India

Once upon a time, or in fact in the 16th century, barrels of sherry were sent lashed to the decks of sailing ships to the East Indies. Far from ruining the wine, the arduous conditions of the voyage actually improved it; it arrived a smoother, deeper, richer drink than when it had set out. The Lustau Solera Reserva East India doesn`t actually travel on any sailing ships, but is a blend of an aged, dry Oloroso and a sweet Pedro Ximenez which are married together in casks and matured to reproduce the style of the original Indies sherry. Very salty on the nose, it certainly evokes sea voyages; the palate is rich, deep, sweet, delicious and very nutty. (NT 03/11/14)
