Savoie
Mondeuse is one of Syrah`s ancestors and you can see that immediately the wine is poured. A dark, inky purple-black liquid stains the glass and the first sniff reveals black pepper and brambly-floral blackberry fruit. In the mouth the tannins are bold but supple and the texture is crunchy and sapid. The bramble fruit is augmented by a touch of plum now and the whole finishes long on that dark fruit and a twist of black pepper. It comes from one of Savoie`s better red wine crus, Jongieux, high up in the Rhone valley and here Mondeuse is at its best. (CW 27/09/21)
