2018 is the first vintage of this wine to be available outside the cellar door. It comes from the Old Patch, a central part of the Hillside vineyard that Tyrrell bought from the Stevens family in 2017, but which they had worked and bought fruit from for years. Old Patch was planted in 1867 and many of the original vines - from the James Busby cuttings are still there. This is a selection of the `younger` vines that have been planted as replacements over the years. 2018 is already a legendary vintage in Australia generally, and in the Hunter especially, because it was blessedly cool and the wines possess an elegance as well as that ripe Hunter signature. It is an extraordinarily good value wine; a rarity at the moment and will be even more brilliant in a few years. (CW 13/04/21)
