A South African expression of the classic Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend, as much Loire Valley Pouilly-Fume in style as Bordeaux Blanc. Aromatically, it is all about the Sauvignon Blanc, so think lemon and wasabi, gooseberry and tomato leaf. Poised and precise to begin with, the enjoyable grippiness on the mid-palate is all about the Semillon, which makes for a moment of inflection before the racy finish. This is another feather in the cap for Newton Johnson and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Is there any grape variety that can`t grow well there? (NT 16/07/21)

Marrying Sauvignon Blanc on sandstone with 27% Semillon on clay, this white Bordeaux blend combines the two sides of the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Subtle, smoky and finely oaked, it has appealing freshness and minerality and notes of citrus, wood smoke and pink grapefruit. Drink 2019-24. 92 points
