From the `undeclared grand cru` of Nuits-St-Georges. Beautiful aromatics, floral and rich, roses, plums and red cherries. Super finesse, real complexity, silky but powerful with a big, long finish. Got ways to go yet. 20% new oak. (NT 08/01/20)

Deep dark colour, this is a brooding monster on the nose. Plump dark fruit, a little bit of blackberry, good weight, dancing energy behind too, fortunately. A rich and succulent but not too soft nose does start to emerge right at the finish. 92-95 points

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a ripe, almost ostentatious bouquet with copious red cherries, blueberry and violet aromas, but perhaps lacks the detail of the Les Vaucrains at the moment. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins on the entry. Fleshy and generous, although it needs more clarity and a bit more density and grip on the finish considering the vineyard in question. Not bad, but I have tasted better Les Saint-Georges from Gouges in the past. 90-92 points

The 2018 Les St. Georges from Domaine Gouges is also superb, with the depth, power and structure of the very best wines of the commune in 2018, coupled to great purity and early complexity. The bouquet delivers a refined blend of black plums, sweet dark berries, woodsmoke, gamebird, a touch of balsam bough, bitter chocolate and a very complex base of minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and shows off a stunning core, with firm, ripe tannins, stunning backend mineral drive and a very, very long and complex finish. This will take a long time in the cellar to blossom, but in time, it will be pure magic! Drink 2035-2085+. 95 points

This too flirts with volatile acidity on the cooler though still liqueur-like aromas both red and dark pinot fruit that is laced with hints of violet, anise and earth. The velvety, round and overtly powerful medium weight plus flavors also possess good power and punch on the lightly stony and slightly warm finale. This is not quite so over-the-top like the Vaucrains though it is still impressively robust. 89-92 points

Cask sample. Pretty heady nose. Is this a sample or a picking-date thing? Big and round and super-intensely ripe and fruity with, just, a sufficient corset for long life. Quite exciting wine with some nerviness. But overall pretty rich. 17 points
