This steep, stony vineyard is among the village’s finest. A touch of smoke here, plum and bramble, red cherry, baking spice, plenty of matter and density but a silky texture. Grippy. Lifted by fine, fresh acidity. Becomes floral as it aereates but will need time to come round. Will be worth the wait! (NT 08/01/20)

Fine glowing purple. A little pretty fruit on the nose but it is quite discreet. Softly ripe on the palate, rather gorgeous, begins discreetly then fills the mouth at the back, on the cusp of red and black, tannins seamlessly entwined, and very long. 92-96 points

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a little more intensity and delineation than the Clos des Porrets, the red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit laced with sous-bois notes. The medium-bodied palate offers fine tannins and more density and energy than the Clos des Porrets. The pretty dark cherry, raspberry and white pepper finish does not overstay its welcome. Enjoy over the next decade. 90-92 points

The 2018 les Pruliers from Grégory Gouges is also outstanding and was unaffected by the July storms. The bouquet is very pure and already shows lovely complexity, delivering a combination of black plums, sweet dark berries, woodsmoke, a touch of anise, complex soil tones, bitter chocolate, pigeon and a topnote of sweet herbs. On the palate the wine is pure, fullbodied and shows off marvelous mid-palate depth, with superb balance and grip, ripe, seamless tannins and a very, very long, very classy finish. All this needs is time to blossom. Drink 2033-2080. 93+ points

Wonderfully seductive nose – ripe, dark-fruited and generous. Then quite a contrast on the palate: quite oaky, a touch of char adding a savoury note. Firm, compact, fresh, all to come. 16.5++ points
