The 2018 Cotes du Rhone from Franck Balthazar is made up of 50% Grenache and 45% Syrah, with a little Mourvèdre and Carignan to complete the blend. It is deep berry red in colour and exudes aromas of black cherry, cassis and subtle garrigue herbs. The palate is full and super silky, with fine-grained tannins that melt away with each sip. There`s plenty of cherry, bramble and raspberry fruit, along with subtle notes of coffee, dark chocolate and spices like cracked black pepper. Delicious on its own, but this also serves as a wonderful accompaniment to roast lamb or a good steak. (RRS 23/02/21)
