Jane Anson

There is a higher proportion of Cabernets than usual here due to low yields, which translates into firm black fruits and pretty high levels of austerity. This is always an estate that teases real personality and flavour out of vintages, and owner Thierry Valette has produced a confident wine with potential to age, though not at the heights of 2016. Thirteen years in biodynamics under Thierry Valette. 3.48pH. Drink 2023 - 2032. 91 points

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Clos Puy Arnaud opens with notes of baked blackberries, preserved plums and blueberry pie, giving way to hints of balsamic and mossy bark. Full, rich and spicy in the mouth, it is sporting bags of dried berry flavors and finishes spicy with a fair bit of chew. 86-88 points
