Julia Harding MW
Partially barrel fermented. Luis Lourenco played a crucial role in restoring the fortunes of Encruzado in the Dão region. Rich aroma of spicy yellow fruits and even a hint of something more floral, like white blossom, or maybe it is more like broom? Manages to be intense and delicate at the same time. On the palate, more spicy power and a very slight grip. Full-bodied with excellent freshness and gently chewy and creamy on the finish – the only real sign of the oak. Should age well, given the chance. Excellent example of the variety and the region, carefully made to reveal a multi-faceted character as it opens up. Even better the day after opening. 17 points
