Of these new releases from Enzo Pontoni, the 2017 Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano Filip is my favorite for a number of reasons. Mostly, however, I find that this grape is expressed with profound clarity and abundance when crafted by these deft winemaking hands. All the elements fall gracefully together with yellow fruit, apricot and poached pear. Light notes of saffron and crushed oyster shell bring perspective and dimension to this exacting portrait of Friuli`s beloved Friulano grape. The alcohol is measured at 14.5%, but this wine shows enough inner fiber and texture to absorb any heat. The overall effect is soft and supple. A mere 1,300 bottles were produced. 94+ points
