Jane Anson

Bright and clean aromatics, on the Sauvignon side. There are some fairly rich grilled, smoky notes here that are seriously well balanced with the juicy, zippy fruit flavours. It has an attractive longevity to the wine across the palate. With plenty of character, this estate is a success in both red and white in 2017, fairly closely in step. 90 points

Strong lime aroma. Tangy and ripe. Unusually intense fruit. On the palate, the oak adds attractive texture but the middle is a little more dilute than I expected. More initial impact than depth. Juicy and fresh. 16 points

There was a lot of frost here this year, so the Larrivet Haut-Brion 2017 Blanc represents the best of the best, according to consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt. Wow—it has a gorgeous nose of honeyed peaches, orange blossoms and ripe Bosc pears with touches of coriander seed and beeswax. The palate is medium-bodied with awesome intensity and tons of stone fruit and citrus layers, featuring bright, refreshing acidity and a very long honey-laced finish. 91-93+ points
