From a coolish vintage, the 2016 Spätburgunder Schlossberg GG opens with coolish and spicy red paprika, licorice, pepper and sandstone notes intertwining with beautiful, almost minty cherry and black berry aromas with fine concentration. Refined and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, lush but linear, very intense and sustainable Pinot Noir with a dense and even juicy texture, very fine tannins and a concentrated, almost sweet and very aromatic, sustainable finish. Fabulous! 13.5% alcohol. Natural cork. 95 points

More intense on the nose than the Centgrafenberg, seems less stemmy in its fragrance though the stemmy character shows more in herbal freshness on the palate. Tremendous finesse in the tannins. Tight, scented, fresh and with creamy spice balancing the crunchy fruit on the finish. 17.5 points
