The 2016 Fixin 1er Cru Les Arvelets was affected by both frost and hail one month afterward, around 27 May. Around 40% of the production was lost. It has a lifted, perfumed bouquet with lovely undergrowth scents percolating through the black fruits that are so well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, really quite chalky toward the finish that leaves a lovely blackcurrant note on the aftertaste. This is just a consistently great cru from Berthaut, and the 2016s keep the purple patch going. 91-93 points

Here the reduction is milder though it`s still enough to hinder a proper assessment of the nose though it seems clear that there is an ample amount of earth influence present. Not surprisingly, this earthiness also suffuses the detailed and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess a refined mouthfeel, all wrapped in a sappy, balanced and lingering finish. This too is worth your interest. 89-92 points

Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Spicy and with dark-red fruits. Firm, dry texture but with the fruit to develop in tandem as the tannins soften. Honest and well made. A good food wine. 16.5 points
