2015 Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne Petits Monts

This plot came from Amelie`s grandfather. Berthaut-Gerbet`s Vosne-Romanee Petits Monts is above Richebourg and so steep you can`t use a tractor, or in some places even a horse for ploughing, so they have a winch. Everything else is done by hand, so it is an expensive bit of land to work. The result is rather wonderful- fine, supple, ripe, restrained, delicate. It finishes on fine tannins and plush texture. Reduction. This also is blessed with that wonderfully appealing inner mouth perfume as the slightly finer and more mineral-driven, if less seductive, flavors possess excellent intensity while delivering even better length if perhaps not quite the same overall depth. However my predicted range is slightly higher here relative to the Suchots as the underlying material is such that more depth will almost certainly develop if this is allowed at least 5 to 8 years of bottle age first. 91-93 points

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Petits Monts came from barrel, matured in 40% new oak and with around 20% whole bunch. Though the nose was showing a little reduction, there is clearly plenty of fruit here. blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry with an underlying floral scent that surfaces with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. It feels lithe in the mouth, a little savory even, and though it will need 3-4 years bottle age to fully absorb the new oak, there is more than enough fruit to soak that up. It is a long-term prospect. 91-93 points
