2015 Berthaut-Gerbet Echezeaux

The 2015 Bertheau Echezeaux was made with about 50% whole bunches and there were two barrels produced. Even on entry there is a sense of the wine`s structure, with fine tannins and glycerine and it finishes strongly and long. The wine in the mouth has huge depth, with more subterranean layers than a house in Chelsea, mineral and real penetration too. The long, slow ferment that made this wine has revealed both great complexity and is an example of why wine can be life-affirming. (CW 09/11/17)

Allen Meadows

A pungent nose of reduction and wood toast is hard to assess today. Otherwise there is excellent richness to the relatively full-bodied, sappy and highly seductive medium weight plus flavors that are shaped by a firm and ripe tannic spine on the impressively persistent finish. This is still very primary and is clearly going to require at least 7 to 8 years of age to be approachable. 91-94 points

Neal Martin

The 2015 Echézeaux Grand Cru is matured in 50% new oak and with around 50% whole bunch. It has an outstanding, stony, mineral-driven bouquet that is beautifully defined and yet still very intense. raspberry, wild strawberry and a hint of cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, hints of brown spice and cola, the whole bunch component lending the finish a slightly grainy texture and a gentle grip. There is tons of personality here, an Echézeaux with something to say. Superb. 92-94 points
