2014 Finca Biniagual Negra Mallorca

Binissalem
There were once 35,000 hectares of vines on the island of Mallorca. Then phylloxera came, and that was pretty much that. For a while, at least - a few local vines hung on in odd corners. Then the age of mass tourism came, and brought international grape varieties in its wake. The Biniagual captures this sweep of Mallorcan winemaking history in a glass, blending Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah with the lighter, local Manto Negro. The Cabernet provides the dark fruit and and the minty tang on the finish, the Syrah brings the spice, and the Manto Negro brings the texture and floral topnotes. Soft tannins and a wide aromatic spectrum make this delicious and immensely drinkable. (NT 21/10/20)
