Cooked meat, dusty red fruit, cranberry, cherry, damson and a cherry-cola note on this late-release Kanonkop Estate Pinotage. Time in bottle has integrated fruit and barrel into a complex, elegant whole, yet the wine retains a touch of grip and good potential for the future. (JH 10/05/22)

(went through malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak, 75% new): Bright medium ruby. Slightly exotic aromas of black raspberry liqueur, blueberry, bitter chocolate, smoked bacon, spices and licorice. Sweet, pliant and rich; a distinctly showy wine with glossy dark berry and violet flavors. Doesn`t display quite the structure or penetration of the 2013 but this is very dense and still quite primary. Very long and ripely tannic on the finish. 92 points

Nicely maturing but still with several years ahead of it. The nose is quite shy but opens out with time in the glass, joining with flavours of polished leather, sun-warmed warm tarmac, dried herbs, tangy damsons and redcurrants and cured meat. The acidity is bright, the smoky oak well integrated and the tannins are smooth but still with some grip. 93 points
