Again we tried different samples from different geology. One. From top soil and compact bedrock, younger 26 year old vines. This is small part. Clonal selection. This was all used to make the premier cru, but part of this will go into Clos de Epeneaux this year and it may have gone in last year. I am not sure. Floral aromatics. Quite light and aromatic on the palate. Light, fine tannins. Very fresh. Zesty and mineral…quite floral and a touch mineral. Two. Same area and 50 year old vines. This is deeper, again some floral notes, but violets. Succulent on the attack. Very vivid and pure and racy. Good intensity and definition.. Tense and mineral and focused on the finish. A good finish. Three. Fragmented bed rock…1/2 hec in the Grands Epenots part. It is quite different. This has a warmer spice on the nose and richer darker red fruits. Ripe on the front and rich and juicy. It is succulent and full in the middle palate. Good breadth and some showy richness. Four. Fragmented rock with average of 55 year old vines. This is dense and layered. Quite powerful, but contained and coiled. Excellent long and finish with lots of fruit and vigour and spice and dark minerals on the finish. A blend (a very rough approximation though). Aromatic spices and floral on the nose. Touch of violets. This is elegant. It is pure and mineral and sweeps across the palate with energy and lucidity. It has a harmony. The tannins are supportive and finely knit. After the lightly muscular rippling middle palate, it focuses to a mineral and tight and pure finish. It is pure and with dark, smooth minerals. This is not a big wine, it is refined and distinguished. Potentially very fine. Score 19.25 from 2017.
