Bourbon HH then Sherry HH
Balmenach became a legal distillery in 1824, but it had probably been distilling illicitly for quite some time before that. It’s sited deep in Speyside, in the Livet district, and draws water from one of the many burns that feed into the River Spey. It has sometimes gone under the name Cromdale. Both earthy and rich, there’s also a surprising salinity to this bottling. A bit of water and it has me thinking of oysters. (NT 27/03/18)
