Bourbon HH
You’ll find Ardmore Distillery south of Huntly, in the very south-east of Speyside where the Grampians meet the fields. It is one of the survivors from the 19th century whisky boom, and one of the very few Speyside distilleries that has always used peated barley. Volumes of peat aren’t huge – think Campbeltown rather than Islay – but it still puts the Ardmore in a completely different flavour park from your average sweet Speyside malt. Orange fruit competes with salinity, savoury umami takes pole position over fruit. (NT 10/07/18)
