The 2012 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots is pointed on the nose, the fruit veering toward black rather than red in hue, with blackcurrant and wilted violet petals emerging with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. notes of black cherries, raspberry and soy that surface toward the composed and harmonious finish. Perhaps not a long-term Santenots like other 2012s that I have encountered, nevertheless this is a finely crafted wine destined to dish out pleasure. 89-92 points
