From one of the grand old bodegas of Rioja, the 2002 vintage represents their 175th anniversary. This is a bodega that believes in the (very) long term, and these are wines that are built to last forever. Consider that this 12 year-old is their current release reserva, and it has spent some 5 years aging in Appalachian barrels the bodega ships and crafts themselves - they are the only winery in Spain to have an in-house cooperage. No need to squirrel this away; 2002 is a drinking vintage. Uncork this and enjoy the cherries, menthol, sweet tobacco and spice. A classic. (NT 03/11/14)
