An evening in aid of Survival International

We Are One evening of tribal prose in aid of Survival International Sponsored by Uncorked® in partnership with Billecart-Salmon Champagne
Sunday 18 April, 5-7pm, Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue

Between us, as we travel the world and visit vineyards, we wonder at the inextricable links between people, place and nature. Whether it be the Zind Humbrechts in Alsace since the 17th century, the Chaves in Hermitage since the 15th, or even the Ricasoli Firidolfis in Chianti since, well, records began, many of the world's best wines are made by people who are not only deeply attached to their lands, but who have an intimate understanding of them, and who seem to exist in perfect harmony with their surroundings. They are people who also understand that they are the guardians of the lands they have inherited, not the exploiters; that it is their responsibility to protect the natural inheritance of their children.

The world's 150 million tribal people also have profound connections to their lands; for most, Earth is the bedrock of their lives. Many have lived on their lands for thousands of years. The Jarawa of the Andaman Islands, for example, are thought to have lived in the Indian Ocean for up to 60,000 years.

It therefore seemed a natural extension for Uncorked to support We Are One, a one-off evening of tribal prose and poetry in aid of Survival International, a human rights charity that helps tribal peoples defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures. It is being held at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1 this Sunday, 18 April, from 5-7pm.

Created and directed by actor Mark Rylance, the acclaimed lead in the current West End play 'Jerusalem', and former artistic director of The Globe theatre, We Are One is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of tribal cultures and powerfully portrays their affinity with their homelands.

A stellar cast of UK and Hollywood actors include: Colin Firth, Julie Christie, Kevin Spacey, Emilia Fox, Derek Jacobi, Mackenzie Crook, Gillian Anderson, Edward Fox, Juliet Stevenson and Zoe Wanamaker.

We are One is based on a book of the same name by Joanna Eede, published in October 2009.
