2010 Bordeaux en primeur: Chasse-Spleen, Poujeaux, Bernadotte

27/05/11
In the last 24 hours, a pair of chateaux capable of making truly great wine, ones which - at their best - can rival surprisingly illustrious names. 2010 looks set to be a benchmark vintage for the top two wines of Moulis.
Chasse-Spleen: 'This has a lovely ripe blackberry, cassis and vanillary nose with beautifully integrated new oak. Seamless. The palate is medium-bodied with a rich, liquorice tinged entry, sappy dark berries, a touch of soy perhaps towards the finish. Unruly at the moment, ambitious and sure to make a big impression after bottling. 92-94 points.' - Neal Martin, erobertparker.com/winejournal
'Poujeaux may not garner many headlines – let alone stratospheric prices – but it's the kind of value for money wine that delights its army of followers. This is grainy, fleshy and aromatic, with restrained alcohol, notes of malt, chocolate and liquorice, seamless oak and a fresh, lingering finish. 10+ years. 93 points.' - Tim Atkin MW, timatkin.com
This morning, Bernadotte, excellent value from Roederer's Pichon Lalande stable. /AR
