The soon-to-be-demolished Chateau Le Pin

30/06/10

Today's release of Le Pin marks the end of the 2009 en primeur campaign. Big news this year at the diminutive Pomerol estate: Jacques Thienpont has decided that the old "chateau" (pictured) is too ostentatious and has replaced it with a new, more modest one. Well, he is an aristocrat. If you are interested please let us know; the price will be published once we've finalised our allocation.

We think we've covered previous buyers and wish listers and so now we open the floodgates on some of the hottest and most sought-after releases of 2009 including - for the first time - the sensational Clos Fourtet, which previously we'd failed to secure. In some cases we were too cautious, some are second (or even third) tranche, in others we simply didn't have time to enter all our purchase orders before the arrival of the next release and the stock was briefly overlooked, and then there are the odds and ends we picked up through sheer tenacity and perseverance. All of them we commend to you as exceptional: outstanding wines from an outstanding year. Will they go up in value? If we knew that, we wouldn't sell them! (Though some are already trading higher - Clos Fourtet having risen to £780 elsewhere.) But if we knew they were going to go down, we wouldn't have bought them!
