2004 Brunello pre-shipment offer
12/06/09
Our great friend Michael Palij MW, one of the leading authorities on Italian wine, is never less than brutally frank. So when he says 2004 Brunello is the best vintage he`s seen, we know to pay attention. Brunello has changed so radically since the last war that only in the last thirty years has the enormous potential of one of the world`s great terroirs been close to realisation.
Planted at altitudes of up to nearly 2,000 feet on both southern and sheltered northerly slopes around the small town of Montalcino, close to Siena yet with a surprising and important maritime influence, it is really the climate that sets it apart. Made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso in a tiny 3,000 acre region and on a variety of soils, even in a hot year like 2004 or 06, in August, at night, you will shiver out in the open and this daily temperature variation gives the wines a long growing season and elegance and complexity.
This is one of the greatest vintages of any wine we will be offering you this year yet because it`s Tuscany, and not Bordeaux, growers haven`t put their prices up. As an added bonus, Wine Advocate scores are yet to be published, which means the wines are available. So join us today and see whether Le Potazzine really deserves only 85 points. /CW
