Allen Meadows:
A monopole of the Domaine with vines that were planted in 1922. This is a bit
more elegant still with a very ripe and densely fruited nose where the earth component takes center stage and continues as a
significant component of the concentrated and ultra-serious, even strict flavors that possess very ripe and prominent tannins.
This is borderline chewy but the balance is excellent as is the length. A robust and rustic but impressive villages that will
require up to a decade of cellar time to shed its considerable structure. 2018+. 89-92 points
Sarah Marsh:
This is always under 30hl/ha and this year it was 20hl/ha or less. Pierre had just 14 barrels this
year, rather than the usual 20. The vines are very old, planted in 1922 and the problems of low
yields were accentuated in 2010. He made a selection of the stems, 20% went back. “In 2011 it
is different, we have a part of whole bunches. The piegage is difficult, but just the first one.”
Dark and concentrated aroma. Dark forest and blackberry fruit. Plenty of richness on the front of
the palate. Good density to the middle. It is very juicy. Supple, ripe tannins. Luscious supple
texture. Distinct note of dark spice. It has a touch of dark mineral with freshness and spice on
the finish. It has plenty of substance. Very good indeed. Pierre likes the stems to give the lift and the spice and to counter the richness of the fruit, which
in 2010 he finds very, concentrated. From 2016. Very good indeed. 16.75 points
