Uncorked:
This is a single vineyard Chianti from one of the most highly acclaimed of all Chianti estates. It`s rich and punchy for a Chianti, with deep berry fruit and notes of tobacco and graphite. We disagree with Ian on one point. This wine will be much, much better with some cellaring - 5-10 years, methinks. (AR 06/01/11)
Ian D`Agata:
Dark ruby-red. Similar on the nose to the entry-level Chianti but deeper, with a stronger vanillin oak note and a whiff of dried herbs complementing the red cherry and plum aromas. Plush and silky but also well focused, with ripe flavors of red cherry, plum and sweet licorice. Finishes with smooth-as-silk tannins, an attractive glyceral texture, and an impression of residual sweetness. This is quite enjoyable now, and I wouldn`t wait much longer to enjoy it. 90 points
Antonio Galloni:
The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardo (Sangiovese) is a vibrant, perfumed offering layered with dark cherries, violets and sweet spices. The French oak is a touch intrusive given the wine’s mid-weight structure. Nevertheless, this is a very fine bottle for the money. Drink 2012-2020. Readers would do well to check out these new wines from Castello di Bossi, which are easily some of the most exciting reds made in Tuscany in 2006. 90 points.
